As you can tell GoingBrightGreen has gone on a little vacation recently… I apologize for the long absence but I am back with a whole load of green goodness 🙂 Speaking of holiday…
Have you ever dreamed of forgetting all your worries and leave everything behind? Forget the city and resource yourself in the caring hands of mother nature? Buy a farm, marry a handsome lumber-jack and have loads of little girls with curly blonde hair running around while Mr. Shirt-open-on-hairy-chest plays the guitar by the chimney? Raise piglets and cows? Wear flowers in your hair, tartan skirts and leather clogs? (Okay Chanel’s 2010 spring collection might have slightly influenced me on that one)
It’s now possible! Don’t they look so happy?
This initiative is called WWOOF = World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms!
It’s a network of organic farms that started in 1971 in the United Kingdom whereby you basically contact a hosting farm and agree with the tenants that they will host you in their homes. It’s free from charge and you get food and accommodation, providing that you help with the chores of the farm!
Obviously it’s all organic so you get to learn a lot from the farmers and their lifestyles!
The network is now world-wide (as in the name) so you can go on holiday in a farm in North and Southern America, Central and East Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East! Anywhere 🙂
You don’t need to have any skills in farming whatsoever, the farmers will very happily teach you everything you need to bo about organic farming! Besides the farms provide such a wide range of activities that everybody can find something they enjoy from taking care of animals (horses, cows, pigs, goats) to growing crops!
The farms specify if they provide vegetarian or vegan meals. If you’re lucky they also sometimes bake their own organic bread… daily!
You can check out the international website at: www.wwoof.org. So, where will I see you this summer?
